week 15 task

Note taking for social housing:

Social housing part of the lives of a big numbers of Australian:
- In one night in Australia just over 4% of households rent for social housing.
- Up to 10% of Australians have called social housing home in past 20 years.
Social housing used in various ways:
- A place to raise a working family
- A springboard to owning a home
- A brief safety net to escape domestic violence
- a stable home following homelessness
AHURI releases a major commission study:
-Tracking the pathways of people into and out of social housing from 2000 to 2015
- Typical social housing tenant
- Australian use social housing in several ways and a home for life is just most common of those.
Social housing used by different groups:
- 1/3rd of people lived continuously in social housing
- Another 1/3rd entered in that time and remained there
- Large proportion entered and left the field once or multiple times
- Represents a long term home, a spring board, a safety net
- The group who lived continuously in social housing generally older and female with need of  age pension and disability benefits from government.
- Second oldest group who left housing and never came back are also female and also need unemployment and disability support.
- High proportion of refugees and other people born overseas with unemployment and disability support are entered here and remain in.
- Younger one, mostly Australian born and indigenous people involves in multiple entrances or exists and was also distinct in the dominance of unemployment benefits.
Social housing board benefits:
- 1/3rd are long term tenancies.
- despite its shortage and lack of investment social housing does much more than simply house of elderly, sick, and most disadvantaged people of our society.
- 1/4th people enter and use it as a field to more stable employment and market housing, valuable role in stabilizing lives and raising prosperity.
- reminds the impact of social housing is well beyond the 4% of the population
- social housing infrastructure is part of housing experience of many Australians
- Underestimate the effectiveness of social housing as a springboard into home ownership , temporary safety net when 4% Australian currently houses.

Summary of social housing:  A study was made of by AHURI is that social housing took part of the lives of a big number of Australians. In one night in Australia just over 4% household rents are used and upto 10% of Australians have collected social home in comparison with past 20 years.
There are various ways of uses of social housing for Australians. It is a place to raise a working family, a online market place to easily search to own a home, it is a safe and secured place for domestic violence cases and last but not the least a stable home for homelessness people.
The first group who lived continuously are generally older female people benefited by government for age pension and disabilities. In second group the average age is 50 and most of female who left housing and need unemployment and disability support. In third one there is high proportion of refugees and other overseas born people who are unemployed and needs disability support entered here and remain stay in. Fourth group is of Australian born and indigenous people who entered multiple times and also distinct with unemployment benefits. In social housing 1/3 rd are long term tenancies, where 1/4th of the people use it as a field to more stable employment in market housing and it plays a valuable role in stabilizing lives of people and also for raising prosperity.

Summary on millennials in the workplace

This text is based on a report about two different global surveys conducted by Pricewaterhouse  Coopers and Deloitte. First one is responses of millennial (born between 1983 and 1993 ) and non millennial collected on the topics of workplace culture, communication and work life balance. Second survey is on the study about their knowledge of threatens and opportunities in their work environment.
In the survey it was found that millennial are as committed to their work as like their senior colleagues and they maintain the balance between work and personal life. They are also flexible in their working hours and believe that success is measured by productivity not in working hours. Millennial want support and also appreciation from their company and sometimes they want more opportunities to develop their skills. Also they are more loyal to their company with strong ethics.
From the survey, there are some recommendations made for the organisations to retain the millennial. Managers should monitor their employees work load and their work life balance by creating flexible work culture. They should provide interesting opportunities and support their professional development. Organisations should solve wider social problems instead of aiming only about profit making.

                                                               WEEK 8 TASK 1

Article: url

https://www.nbcnews.com/science/environment/great-barrier-reef-hit-third-major-bleaching-event-five-years-n1166676

Article title: Great Barrier Reef hit by third major bleaching event in five years.

By guessing the content: By the name, i believe the article would be discussing about the environmental damage to the great barrier reef. The article will tell us that the frequency of bleaching of the coral reef has increased to almost three times in five years because of the biodiversity caused by environmental changes.

Skimming of the article: The main idea of the article is because of the rapid climate change the temperature of the water fluctuates. Some time there is a rapid rise in temperature and sometimes it falls. Due to this the bleaching effect takes place and  the colour of the corals get affected. Corals become white and their longevity of life is minimized.

Notes of the main point:  The Great Barrier Reef is experiencing most widespread coral bleaching event. Facing unmatched period of heat stress in third major bleaching event in past five years. Climate change cause destructive frequent events and coral does not have enough time to recover.

Last major bleaching event occurred in 2017.
The most  five recorded bleaching events are, the first in 1998, second one in 2002, then after 14 years, next one in 2016 and the last but not the least back to back events occurred in following year.

The gap is shrinking. Fastest growing corals event take a decade for recovery and the slowest one take several decades.

Coral bleaching occurs due to abnormal condition of ocean temperature. These environmental stress causes coral to become ghostly white due to expel of tiny photosynthetic algae.

Diseases occur to the Reef because of this bleaching process.
In 2016, 27% of corals died and in following year 22% were lost, for this nearly half the reef coral's died in two years.

Satellite observation showed that this year's coral bleaching spread far more across the reef compared to 2016 and 2017.

In 2002 and 2016 bleaching event caused by El Nino and this affected equatorial pacific.
El Nino is not directly triggering the current bleaching event but because the summers are getting hotter and hotter due to global warming.

The Reef designated as World's Heritage Site and valued $ 50 billion. The 1500 mile long Reef is home for diverse amount of marine life. There is an impact on the region's fish , turtles, mollusks and sea critter due to this bleaching event.

Mix species are changing because of this rapid disturbances and also changing the bio-diversity of whole ecosystem.

Summary:  The Great Barrier Reef has been affected by the most devastating bleaching event because of the frequent temperature changes of the ocean. In the last five years this event has occurred three times. In the past this is happening because of the natural El Nino event but the recent bleaching events are because of the climate change due to global warming. This is affecting the corals the most as well as other marine species resulting in a massive change in the bio-diversity of the entire ecosystem.

Personal reflection: In my opinion the bio-diversity of whole ecosystem are changing so rapidly due to global warming, there is a severe impact in the ocean's temperature. As there is a rapid up and down in the temperature, hence the ocean's ecosystem get affected. This causing harm to the various species in the ocean and mostly corals are getting affected. The coral's colour changes due to this rapid fluctuation of temperature and the corals become ghostly white. The frequency of this bleaching event has gone up in the recent years and this also affecting in a more widespread region.

Australia's corona virus self-isolation rules: who has to do it and how it works

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/18/australias-coronavirus-self-isolation-rules-who-has-to-do-it-and-how-it-works

Personal reflection

Self isolation is very essential to stop the rapid spread of corona virus. People who arrived from overseas after March 15 should be isolated for 15 days. During this period one should need to stay at home to reduce the risk of transmission. Self isolation is a good idea for people who are at a high risk of transmission in society like people over the age of 70. The incubation period for Covid 19 is between five and ten days. During the self isolation period if the symptoms of Covid 19 develops then people should arrange to see their doctors for check ups.
